SMF Fund Managers are selected through a highly competitive application process. Each team has three fund managers, with one Lead Manager per team. Student Fund Managers apply the knowledge they learn in the classroom to real investment portfolios, traditionally earning impressive returns even in today’s volatile economic environment.

Chris Taylor is a second year MBA student at the University of Connecticut with a concentration in Finance. Prior to attending the University of Connecticut, Chris worked as a mortgage loan originator with New England Home Mortgage. This past summer he interned at The Hartford where he worked in personal lines product management. Chris also works as a Graduate Assistant.

Anthony Martinez is a second year MBA Student at the University of Connecticut concentrating in finance and serves as the Portfolio Manager for the Student Managed Fund. Prior to attending UConn Anthony worked in the restaurant industry in various capacities from lead trainer to shift manager, but his true passion is to start a career in the financial services industry.

Anthony holds a B.S. in Management with a concentration in finance from Binghamton University.

Huong Doan is a second year MBA student concentrating in finance. Prior to UConn, Huong was a manager in Group Financial Reporting Department of HSBC Vietnam. She has ten year accounting and finance experience in healthcare, trading, manufacturing, and financial services industries. Her job responsibilities include analysis and interpretation of group financial reports and management reports, and especially project management.

Huong is now serving as a fund manager and treasurer for Student Managed Fund.

Mike Dyer is a second year MBA student at the University of Connecticut with a concentration in Finance. Prior to attending UConn, Mike spent 7 years in various corporate finance roles at Fidelity Investments, Phoenix Cos., and Pearson Plc. This past summer he interned at GE Capital where he conducted competitive analysis for their aviation services division. Mike also serves as a Graduate Assistant and Student Ambassador.

Vivek Goel is a second year MBA student specializing in finance at University of Connecticut, School of Business. He also serves as a Graduate Teaching Assistant.

Vivek is an enthusiastic individual with quick learning abilities. Along with 1st year of MBA he cleared CFA Level 1 and is now preparing for Level 2. Vivek represented the University of Connecticut at the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) Merger & Acquisition case competition, and won the intercollegiate case competition.

This summer he worked as a Business Development (Mergers & Acquisitions) Associate for Lydall, Inc. in Manchester, CT. As a result of his performance he was offered Co-op opportunity for entire academic year. Before coming for MBA studies at UConn, Vivek worked for Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. as a team leader on a refinery expansion project worth over $400 million, in Mumbai, India.

Vivek received a BE in Chemical Engineering from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi, India.

Shuang Han is a second year MBA student with a concentration in Finance at University of Connecticut. During her 6 years of experience in Financial Services, Retail and Strategic Marketing, Shuang has worked with clients such as Northeast Utilities, Hartford HealthCare, and US Internal Revenue Service, etc. in various capacities.

Prior to attending UConn, Shuang worked at UBS Wealth Management Department analyzing financial data and forecasting profit; at a Chinese optical industry, recommending price strategies to management based on industry research of export trends; at a retail chain in Connecticut and has been promoted to managerial position within six month of hire. The rich industry background ensures that she has a broad skill set including Financial Services, International Trade Strategies and consumer marketing.

Shuang is highly interested and motivated in pursuing her career as portfolio manager and has an ambition to use her consumer marketing experience and analytical skills in managing investment in consumer sector. Shuang is currently serving as a fund manager for Student Managed Fund (SMF) and she is mainly focusing on recommending securities and managing invested fund in Consumer Discretionary and Consumer Staples sectors.

Nanxin (Nick) Li is a second year MBA student at the University of Connecticut concentrating in healthcare management and finance. Nick is a highly motivated life sciences business professional with rigorous PhD and MBA training, pharmaceutical R&D skill sets, and life sciences consulting experience.

Prior to UConn, Nick received PhD in psychopharmacology from Yale University and BS in psychology from Peking University in China. This past summer he did business development MBA internship at Forest Laboratories in New York City. As SMF fund manager Nick specializes in healthcare sector. He is also actively involved in various MBA leadership capacities, including the Graduate Business Association and Healthcare Society.

Tzu-Wen Lin

Albert (Tzu-Wen) Lin is currently an MBA student at the University of Connecticut majoring in Finance. He has more than 8 years of experience in accounting, finance and tax and business management.

Prior to UCONN, he was a chief financial officer at Chengxin Engineering Corporation where he set up internal control system and streamlined the finance department. His contributions in project analyses were the key to improve the company’s profit performance. Prior to UCONN, He worked in Big 4 CPA firms from an auditor to assistant manager. There he got his Certified Public Accountant and Certified Internal Auditor.

He is currently excited to serve as a SMF fund manager, specializing in the financials and consumer staples sectors.

Anup Ratnakaran is a 2013 MBA candidate at the University of Connecticut concentrating in Healthcare Management & Finance. Anup serves as a Fund manager managing the Healthcare Sector on the Student Managed Fund and as the President of the UConn MBA Healthcare Society.

Anup has rich, diverse experience in IT services consulting industry having worked with clients across a host of industries in North America for the last 12 years. His areas of specialization are Value stream mapping, process Improvement and Six Sigma. Anup is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and certified Six Sigma Black belt.

This past summer Anup interned at Griffin Hospital on strategic projects in Accountable Care Organization and Patient Centered Medical Home accreditation. Anup intends to pursue a career in the Healthcare industry.

Dawei Zheng is a second year MBA student at the University Of Connecticut School Of Business, concentrating in Finance. She is a Chartered Accountant and has successfully passed all three levels of CFA exams. Prior to UConn, Dawei worked as a Senior Auditor at Deloitte & Touché in Dublin, Ireland. In the past summer she interned at Pitney Bowes in Stamford, CT as an MBA summer associate and worked on different assignments including Mergers & Acquisitions, Capital Markets, FX Trade, and Decision Support.

Dawei is from China and she has lived in Ireland and Italy for many years before coming to the United States. She is in the Board of the Graduate Business Association, also serves as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and Student Ambassador.
