Team Gilson operates under the guidance of Professor Paul Gilson. The managers apply the knowledge they learn in the classroom and utilize fundamental analysis and value investing as they manage a $1M portfolio. The team meets weekly for stock pitches and portfolio strategy.

Anthony Mottolese

Anthony Mottolese is a senior at the University of Connecticut pursuing a degree in Finance. Over the summer, he was a Financial Representative for Northwestern Mutual developing his own financial planning practice and gained experience working with CFAs and CFPs. In addition to being a member of the Student Managed Fund, Anthony is involved on campus as a student ambassador for the ETF Portfolio Challenge, a member of Finance Society, and is a member of CFA Society Hartford. Anthony is from Somers, Connecticut and plans to pursue a career in investment management upon graduation.

Josh Weist

Josh Weist is a senior Finance major and Computer Science minor at the UConn School of Business. This summer, Josh was a Summer Analyst at Artemis Capital, a Boston based growth private equity fund specializing in industrial technology investments. At Artemis, Josh was responsible for investment analysis as well as supporting executives at key portfolio companies. The previous summer, Josh was a Summer Analyst at Ironwood Capital, a mezzanine debt investment firm. Josh is originally from Avon, Connecticut and enjoys golfing and spending time with friends.

Ana Walas

Ana Walas is a senior pursuing a Finance degree. During the past two summers, Ana worked at Hubbell Incorporated as an internal audit intern. Upon graduation, Ana aspires to pursue the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) certification and work in the investment management industry. Ana aspires to become a financial literacy advocate, and hopes to help others take control of their finances. Ana has worked at the School of Business Finance Department for three years as a Student Administrative Specialist. On her free time, Ana enjoys needlework and swimming.

Bartosz Walas

Bartosz Walas is a senior student at the University of Connecticut majoring in Finance and minoring in Economics. In addition to the Student Managed Fund, Bartosz has been an active member of the Finance Society since 2014 and has been a bookkeeper at the Undergraduate Student Government since the fall of 2016. In the summer of 2017, Bartosz interned at Aetna as a General Management intern in the San Francisco office. Bartosz was born in Poland and currently resides in Stamford, CT. In his free time he is occupied with several hobbies including programming, digital art, and tennis. Upon graduation Bartosz intends to work in the financial field, preferably portfolio management.

Jack Leyland

Jack Leyland is a senior honors student majoring in Finance at the University of Connecticut. In addition to the Student Managed Fund, Jack is an active member of the Finance Society involved with the organization of the annual stock pitch competition. This summer Jack interned at Hartford Investment Management Company in Hartford. Outside of Finance, Jack is the Director of Operations at Pakta Consulting, a student run consulting start-up focusing on social enterprises in under-served regions, and is a member of the Zeta Beta Tau social fraternity. In his free time, he enjoys reading, skiing, playing guitar and watching New York sports. Jack hopes to move to New York City to pursue a career in Asset Management after graduation. 

Dustin Fowler

Dustin Fowler is a senior in the School of Business and will be joining K1 as a Private Equity Analyst after graduation. Prior to accepting his full time offer, he held three internships in investment banking, venture banking and buy-side equity research. Dustin is most passionate about exploring the world and meeting new people. His free time is spent at the gym, at Ted’s, learning Spanish, or practicing Salsa. He joined the Student Managed Fund in February.

Michael Pehota

Michael Pehota is currently a senior at the University of Connecticut pursuing a degree in Finance. Last summer, Michael was an analyst at GE Energy Financial Services, where he focused on financing renewable energy projects. Beyond being a member of the Student Managed Fund, Michael is also very involved in the professional business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi. In his free time he enjoys playing and watching sports, hanging out with friends, and traveling.

Jonathan Stryjek

Jonathan Stryjek is currently a senior at the University of Connecticut pursuing a degree in Finance with a minor in Real Estate and certificate in MIS. This past summer, Jon was a Risk Management intern at The Hartford. On campus, Jon is involved with the Husky Ambassador Program, allowing prospective students to experience the day of a UConn student. Jon is also the campus representative for Smugglers’ Notch Ski Resort, where he helps student organizations plan ski trips during the winter. Jon is from Suffield, CT, and enjoys golfing, skiing, fishing, and watching UConn sports in his free time.

Alex Barriga

Alex Barriga is a senior honors student at the University of Connecticut majoring in Finance. In addition to being on the Student Managed Fund team, Alex is the Director of the Finance Society Mentor Program. This past summer, Alex interned in the Mergers & Acquisitions group at Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BAML). Prior, Alex interned at Deloitte where he rotated between Audit and Tax. Upon graduation Alex will return to BAML as an M&A analyst. Alex is from Stamford, CT and in his free time enjoys soccer and spending time with friends and family.

Shawn McAuley

Shawn McAuley is a Finance Major in his Senior year at the University of Connecticut. He just completed a summer internship at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. for the Banking Operations Business Management team within their Corporate Investment Bank. During his junior year, Shawn worked for IBM as a Financial Analyst as part of their full-time 6 month co-op program. Outside of the classroom, he is an active member of the Finance Society and former member of the Business Connection Learning Community. Shawn resides in Trumbull, Connecticut and enjoys snowboarding, biking and spending time with friends and family during his free time.
