SMF Fund Managers are selected through a highly competitive application process. Each team has three fund managers, with one Lead Manager per team. Student Fund Managers apply the knowledge they learn in the classroom to real investment portfolios, traditionally earning impressive returns even in today’s volatile economic environment.

Robert Bailey is a senior at the University of Connecticut pursuing a dual degree in Actuarial Science and Finance. Robert has already passed two SOA actuarial exams, P/1 Probability and FM/2 Financial Mathematics, and plans to pass a few more exams before graduating in 2014. In the summer of 2013, Robert had an actuarial internship at United Healthcare in the pricing department, where he developed a system for tracking policyholder migration and for comparing migrated to non-migrated groups.Robert is from New Hartford, CT and graduated from Northwestern Regional High School #7 in 2010. In his free time he plays volleyball, video, and table top games.

Duston Hodgkins is a senior at the University of Connecticut studying Finance. During the summer, Duston interned with UBS Investment Bank in the Credit Middle Office, where he provided trade control support for the fixed-income and derivatives front office.Duston is also a member of Beta Theta Pi, a social fraternity, and has served on the executive board for the past two years. While an undergraduate, Duston has also attended two national ranked leadership conferences. Originally from Wells, Maine, Duston hopes to move to New York City and work for an investment bank after graduation. In his free time, Duston enjoys road cycling, having biked over 1,000 miles since May 2013.

Tom Blankemeier is a senior at the University of Connecticut majoring in Finance and minoring in International Studies. In the spring of his sophomore year, Tom spent six months studying International Studies at Fudan University in Shanghai, China. This past summer Tom interned for J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. in Risk Management with the wholesale cost of credit risk team.Tom is from Darien, Connecticut, where he graduated from Darien High School in 2010. In his free time, Tom enjoys traveling, photography, skateboarding, and relaxing with family and friends.

This past summer, Alex interned with BNP Paribas as a fixed income summer analyst, completing rotations in Interest Rate Derivative Sales as well as Interest Rate/ FX Structuring.Alex is from Waterford, CT and spends his free time playing tennis, reading, painting, and relaxing with friends and family.

David Boudreau is a senior Finance major at the University of Connecticut. Last summer, David interned at The Travelers Companies and will be joining the company’s full-time Financial Management Leadership Development Program (FMLDP) after graduating in May 2014.He is from Milford, Connecticut and graduated from St. Joseph High School in 2010. In his free time, David enjoys long distance running, singing/playing guitar, and spending time with his family and friends.

Eric Bourassa is currently a senior Finance major at the University of Connecticut. Eric gained valuable experience as a summer analyst for Morgan Joseph TriArtisan, a middle market investment bank located in New York City. There he was a part of the healthcare investment banking team where he was exposed to fundamental valuation and financial modeling.Eric is also a member of Pi Kappa Alpha, a social fraternity where he held various positions. He also enjoys basketball, fishing, and hanging out with his friends. Following his graduation in May of 2014, Eric hopes to find a career in Investment or Private Banking.

Michael Cox is a senior at the University of Connecticut studying Finance. In addition to being on the Student Managed Fund, Michael is VP of External Relations for the UConn Finance Society and VP of Finance for Beta Alpha Psi, a business fraternity for Finance and Accounting students.This past summer, Michael interned at Luminous Capital in Portola Valley, California. Luminous is a wealth management division of First Republic Bank specializing in Alternative Investments. Under the direction of Robert Skinner, a UConn alum, Michael was responsible for tracking the firm’s portfolio holdings and sending out weekly e-mails in regards to top performers and news of the Alerian MLP ETF. He also participated in Fund Manager conference calls and created asset allocations for clients in order to provide recommendations based on their current portfolio holdings. The previous summer Michael interned at Merrill Lynch in San Francisco.

Michael is from Stratford, CT and spends his free time playing tennis and golf, doing yard work at his mother’s house, and going to the gym. He hopes to find a career in Investment Management or Banking.

Joe is a senior Finance major at UConn. Last year he was the treasurer for the Kappa Sigma Fraternity and the Student Entrepreneurial Organization. He also started his own business called “Cracked2Intact” where he repairs his classmate’s cracked iPhone, iPod and iPad screens.He began his finance career with an internship at Citi during the summer of his freshman year. The two summers that followed, he interned at Merrill Lynch where he learned about financial planning and fixed income trading. His most recent internship was at the Global Asset Management firm, Legg Mason.

Matthew Mastrogiorgio is a senior at the University of Connecticut studying Finance with a minor in Economics. During the summer, he interned at the Royal Bank of Scotland where he rotated through their interest rate derivative, and leveraged capital markets desks.Matthew is from Ridgefield, CT where he graduated from Ridgefield High School in 2010. Outside of school he is an avid fan of the New York Rangers and New York Giants. Matthew wishes to pursue a career in Investment Management or Banking after he graduates.

Lina Posada is a senior at the University of Connecticut pursuing a major in Finance. During the past summer, Lina gained valuable experience as an intern at General Electric specializing in Transfer Pricing and helping build a worthless stock database with over 700 million in speculative securities. Lina is also the CFO of the multicultural Business society and a Hispanic Ambassador for General Electric.Lina is from Colombia, and enjoys her free time reading, investing, doing yoga, traveling, as well as spending time with friends and family.
